The Savior's Suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane

List of Words and Phrases that Describe the Savior's suffering

In Matthew, when the Savior entered the Garden, He began to be sorrowful and very heavy.  (began to be distressed, troubled, and deeply grieved.)
In Mark, when the Savior entered the Garden, He began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy. (amazed, awestruck, astonished, depressed, dejected and in anguish)
In Luke, while the Savior is in the Garden it says that He was in agony (pain) and he sweat as it were great drops of blood.  


Additional Insights about the Savior's Suffering in Gethsemane

The agony in which the Savior suffered was more than humanly possible to endure.  
It seems that the Father withdrew His Presence from the Savior.  
When the Savior exclaimed "It is finished" (John 19:28) the atoning sacrifice was accepted by the Father.
The Savior suffered the consequences of our sins.  
"The suffering of the Son of God was not simply the suffering of personal death; for in assuming the position that He did in making an atonement for the sins of the world He bore the weight, the responsibility, and the burden of the sins of all men, which, to us, in incomprehensible..." (The Life and Teachings of Jesus and His Apostles p 173)
In that hour, Christ met and overcame all the horrors that Satan could inflict.
